SORRY...THE BIRDS MADE ME DO IT!
Birddog Lesson #1: When walking a birddog on a leash...Hold on TIGHT!

Fauna escaped twice on Sunday, ran through the creek and into the woods and fields but she came back both times albeit very wet and very dirty! So she had two baths on Sunday. Flora is warming up to me and actually gave me kisses this morning and is slowly overcoming her phobias.
Flora and Fauna are doing GREAT!

ONE FOSTER DAD WRAPPED AROUND 8 PAWS...DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER!
My father was a fanatical pheasant hunter. He went to South Dakota and everywhere to hunt pheasants. Consequently I grew up with bird dogs, primarily GSP's. I have to tell you that in my opinion Fauna is something special as a bird dog. No question the best I have ever seen. In one day at my house she pointed and flushed a pheasant, two ducks and points everything that moves, Robins, Sparrows, squirrels, rabbits, this morning at 4:00 in total darkness she even flushed out the herd of deer that live back by the creek. The minute she goes out the door she is in full hunting mode. Again, I believe she is very special and talented in this regard and is hopefully will land with a hunter who will enable her to use her skills. I know that if I were still hunting there is no way I would let her go. And the best part is she is a wonderful pet too. Once she comes in the house she totally goes out of hunting mode and into sweet, lovable, lots of kisses pet. She and Flora have become my shadows and follow me everywhere. Flora gives great kisses and her tail is always going. I think she is a wonderful dog and I only wish I could keep her.

Little Flora, well the good news is she had no discharge from her right eye this morning and less from her left eye than yesterday morning. While very shy, she is very sweet and affectionate. Again, she follows me everywhere and she is so tiny that I find myself tripping over her sometimes because I don't even see her under my feet, being used to my 100 lb chocolate Lab. She is a snuggler and gave me kisses this morning too. She seems to be getting less skittish about sounds other than the garage door which traumatizes her. She is a really sweet dog, great on a leash and I really don't think men will be problem for her as long as they are kind to her. While shy, I think she is a really sweet dog. As of last night, she still had diarrhea, just check my carpet for stains.

If these girls can just learn to go potty outside and not focus on hunting they are going to be fine. I was very sad to leave them this morning and go to work. I got up at 4:00 so we could hunt, walk and play before I went to work. The birds weren't awake yet so Fauna was marginally less distracted but she really wanted to go after the deer.

AREN'T WE THE BEST?
These girls are so sweet and loving! Beautiful as well.
Both are black and white. No brown.

FLORA is smaller, about 21 inches at the shoulder, and just over 30 pounds,
but very skinny. Was definitely not getting her share at the shelter.
I am feeding her separately here. She has the mask on her left face.
It's just like a line down the middle of her face - so cute. Lashes on
left side black and lashes on the right side white! She is more timid
than Fauna and really jumps at sudden noises. But she runs outside and
plays what I call "dodge em". She will run at you, or the other dogs
and stop just short of you, then lean back on those back legs and fake
right and spin left and run on! It's so fun!

FAUNA is larger at 23 inches at the shoulder and 45 pounds, both ears
have some solid black on them. She is VERY friendly and sweet.
Not timid at all. Does NOT like cats, but loves to chase the birds outside.
I swear she poses for pictures. Her tail just goes a mile a minute.
Lots of puppy kisses.

Best of all, neither of them are barkers. I wish I could keep them
both.

We will join IBR shortly!
Hi, I'm Flora. My sister Fauna and I are waiting to go into Illinois Birddog Rescue Foster Care, as nice caring people have alerted them that we are in "danger". Don't quite know what off---but we sure are eager to leave this KY shelter and we will be so happy when we get to go live in a nice home. My sister looks very much like I do---no wonder, we are litter mates. IBR is trying to get more photos of us that everybody can see how pretty we are and maybe will adopt us. Gotta go for now!
